Students in any major may minor in Criminal Justice. In addition to three upper-level criminal justice elective, required courses include Criminal Law and Procedure, Constitutional Law, and Criminology.
Minor/Certificate in Victimology
The recognition of victim’s issues has taken on great importance in this day and age. Victims of all types require advocates and service providers that can assist them in understanding their rights and guiding them through the various processes and resources available to them.
In response, Anna Maria College has developed an interdisciplinary minor/certificate program in Victimology and Victim Studies. The curriculum draws on coursework in Criminal Justice, Human Development, Nursing, Psychology and Social Work. Students enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in any field or concentration may earn a minor in Victimology and Victim Studies though the completion of four required courses and two electives. Students who currently, or seek to work in law enforcement, the courts, corrections and professional settings involving work with victims of crime, families of crime victims, victims of disaster and the community at large may pursue a certificate program in Victimology and Victim Studies through the completion of four required courses and four electives.

The correctional services certificate consists of core-professionalspecialized courses, as well as general education courses designed to upgrade the basic job performance of the administration of justice practitioner. The primary objective is to provide professional career development as an alternative to the full academic program. The one-year certificate program provides formal academic preparation without loss of credit if the associate of applied science degree is pursued.

The graduate level certificate program in Jewish Communal Service prepares future Jewish communal professionals in other disciplines or enhances the Jewish studies background of those already employed within the Jewish community. It may also be taken by students pursuing full master’s degree programs to broaden their career options.
Requirements for the Certificate in Jewish Communal Service
The Certificate in Jewish Communal Service consists of six three-credit courses including:
Jewish Communal Professional Courses 9 Credits
New Directions in the American Jewish Community (Sociology 40901) 3 credits
Jewish Political Science course 3 credits
Elective (Chosen in consultation with the advisor) 3 credits
Jewish Studies 9 Credits
One course in classical Jewish studies 3 credits
One course in modern Jewish studies 3 credits
Jewish studies elective 3 credits
Courses taken in the certificate program may subsequently be applied toward the fulfillment of requirements for master’s degree programs at Gratz College. Students are encouraged to apply these credits toward the Master of Arts in Jewish Communal Service degree.
Advanced Standing
Students who have previously taken graduate-level course work that has not already been applied toward a credential may transfer one course in each area, and thus receive a maximum of six credits in advanced standing.

What we do for you:
The Criminal Justice Associate Degree is designed to provide students with a solid base for additional study at a four year institution and for entry level employment in federal, state, local or private criminal justice agencies. Completion of the law enforcement certificate program exceeds the minimum P.O.S.T. requirements for entry level employment as a peace officer, probation officer, parole agent, or for positions in the court system. Completion of course requirements listed for law enforcement reserve officer provides students with the knowledge and skills in excess of those required by the California Commission on P.O.S.T for entry level service as a reserved officer. The Law enforcement Custody and Advanced Officer course offering is designed to upgrade the skills and knowledge for employed peace officers and to provide knowledge and skills, based on new legal and or judicial rulings. Standard salaries range from $40,000-$80,000.

Developed in cooperation with the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, the Law Enforcement Certificate program prepares students for a career in law enforcement. The certificate combines specialized criminal justice and general education coursework to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to compete for entry in the Massachusetts law enforcement field. All of the credits earned in the certificate program can be applied to a Quinn Bill eligible Associate in Science degree in Criminal Justice.

This program is designed for practitioners employed by criminal justice agencies or for students wishing to diversify their major course of study. The purpose of the certificate program is to provide students with an academic post-secondary education in criminal justice. Courses taken will provide a theoretical and systems approach to the entire field of criminal justice. Courses completed satisfactorily may be used toward the Associate Degree in Public Service.
Areas of instruction focus on concepts, theories and processes pertaining to all areas of the criminal justice system, including police work and organization, criminal law, causes of criminal behavior, rules of evidence and criminal procedures, and correctional services and systems.
