CRIMINAL JUSTICE (CRJ) at Mercer University, Cecil B. Day Campus

CRJ 260. Criminal Justice System (3 hours)
(CRJ 260 is prerequisite to all other CRJ courses.)
An overview and analysis of the major components of the criminal justice system: criminal law, law enforcement, the judicial and correctional processes, and related topics.

CRJ 360. Criminology (3 hours)
An analysis of the major theories of criminal behavior, the nature and types of crime, and the relationship between crime and society. Special emphasis will be placed on the relationship between the notion of crime, punishment, and justice.

CRJ 362. Juvenile Delinquency (3 hours)
A study of the nature and extent of juvenile delinquency in contemporary society, with particular emphasis on theories of causation, treatment, and control.

CRJ 367. Law and Society (3 hours)
Prerequisite: CRJ 260 or SOC 101
This course studies the moral and cultural values which shape our legal system and the pervasive impact of that system on our society and culture. Through an in-depth examination of the most controversial legal-societal issues of the day, the course will illuminate the evolving role and interaction of the public, the judiciary, and the legislature in defining and enforcing social norms, thus shaping the American social and cultural landscape.

CRJ 390. Special Topics in Criminal Justice (3 hours)
Prerequisite: consent of instructor and chair.
A study of some significant topic in criminal justice that is not available through other departmental course offerings.

CRJ 490. Internship (3-6 hours)
Prerequisite: consent of instructor and chair.
The internship offers practical experience through fieldwork. The student is responsible for all arrangements.

Criminal Justice degree at Martin University

The undergraduate program in Criminal Justice is designed to provide students with an understanding of the criminal justice process, its agencies, personnel, and historical foundations. Criminal Justice is an interdisciplinary study of crime in society-sociology, criminology, and law serve as a foundation for the program. As a specific discipline, Criminal Justice emphasizes studies to provide students with a succinct understanding of the key components of policing, corrections, juvenile justice, and the various judicial systems in the United States. In addition to the Social Sciences Core and CJ 499, students seeking a degree in Criminal Justice are encouraged to take 12 credit hours of Spanish.

To obtain a major in Criminal Justice, students complete the following six (18 cr) courses.

Bachelor of Science Criminal Justice at Bluefield State College

The program of study follows a recommended eight semester course of study. Students should be aware that certain factors may require deviation from the recommended schedule, and that completion of the degree may take longer than eight semester hours. Entering students, who have already completed an associate degree in criminal justice or the equivalent from an accredited institution may transfer in and be admitted at junior status in the particular specialization chosen. They can then earn the baccalaureate degree by completing the general studies program and those courses specified for the third and fourth year of the major. Up to 72 hours of credit from all regionally accredited community colleges may be applied towards the degree; all hours transferred in will be entered on the transcript and will calculate in the students’ GPA at Bluefield State College.

Up to 13 hours credit will be awarded to individuals within this discipline who present to the registrar a photocopy of graduation certificate from either an accredited police academy or an accredited state or federal correctional academy. Additional credits may be awarded in accordance with articulation agreements made by Bluefield State College and various institutions. The minimum credit awards are:

Criminal Justice degree at Averett College

Sociology/criminal justice students study criminal law, prisons, court processes and procedures, the Constitution and police procedures. This is a good major for students interested in forensic science, detective work, or law school.

Averett also offers a degree in aerospace management/criminal justice to prepare students for law enforcement careers with the FAA and other aviation-related criminal justice positions.

This an interdisciplinary program designed to provide students with an understanding of the causes, social functions, societal reactions, nature and application of criminal law. Rather than a technical program which focuses on applied skills (e.g. vocational skills), our program will emphasize the justice component. Department Of Criminology at University of Sindh Pakistan

The University has introduced this dynamic Masters’ program in Criminology since 1998. Conceived in the context of rising rate of crimes in the country as whole, it aims at providing skilled manpower to combat the rising wave of Crimes. The Program will at the same time create new job opportunities for the youth. It covers all aspects of knowledge that has bearing on understanding the nature and causes of criminal behaviour of various kinds, the prevention of crime, the punishment and treatment of offenders, the functioning of the institutions of criminal justice and the bodies of law that define criminal behaviour and govern the process through which the criminal law is applied. The course is designed for 18 months duration with four semesters, minimum four months each.
