Criminal Justice Degree Online

Course requirements in the minor are organized into required and 1 criminal justice elective course. The required component includes courses to provide a general foundation in the discipline. The elective allows students to pursue one additional course of their particular interest.

The total minor consists of 6 courses, or 18 credit hours. A grade of C- or higher is required for each course in the minor.

Graduates of the criminal justice program will be able to analytically evaluate, synthesize information, and use critical thinking skills to develop appropriate solutions for important criminal justice issues. The program is designed to help you understand the coercive nature of criminal justice decision making and the need to use logic, ethics, and critical thinking skills in order to use your authority appropriately. This program prepares you for entry-level employment in various criminal justice agencies such as: police officers, court clerks, court bailiffs, correctional officers, probation officers, parole officers, and other federal law enforcement positions. Policing and institutional corrections employment will also require the completion of a training academy. If advancing in the criminal justice field is your goal, this program will help you achieve it.

Peace and Justice Studies explores the causes and nature of conflict and war; the connections between violence, terrorism, war, and social life; and models of peace-building, healing, and reconciliation in the resolution and transformation of conflict.

The interdisciplinary minor draws from courses across a wide range of disciplines, covering such topics as the culture of war and peace, law and society, environmental ethics, the Holocaust, and the U.S. and the Middle East. We encourage students who minor in Peace and Justice Studies to take advantage of opportunities relevant to the field, such as fieldwork, service learning, internships, and study abroad.
