The Criminal Justice program at St. John’s gives students a comprehensive understanding of our multifaceted criminal justice system. Along with specific courses in criminal justice theory and application, the curriculum includes a solid, interdisciplinary liberal arts foundation. Program of study: A passion for society
As majors in anthropology and sociology at Rockford College, students may pursue a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree and choose from a number of concentrations: anthropology and sociology, criminal justice and pre-social work. In each area, the all-college and divisional requirements ensure a strong liberal arts foundation for a more specialized program of study. Students may have a wide range of academic internship opportunities to work for a semester in an agency or organization in the community and earn credits toward graduation.

The Criminal & Social Justice major at the University of St. Francis offers students an exciting alternative to a traditional criminal justice program offering a broad scope of academic preparation, thus greater career mobility. In addition to a solid core of criminal justice courses, students will have an opportunity to build a concentration in one of several specializations.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

The Criminal & Social Justice major will educate students in the structure and process of the criminal justice system with a holistic Catholic Franciscan social justice perspective. This program seeks to:
Provide students with a broad liberal arts foundation challenged by Franciscan values and charism, engaged in a continuous pursuit of knowledge, faith, wisdom, and justice, and ever mindful of a tradition that emphasizes reverence for creation, compassion, and peacemaking.
Provide a social justice perspective on criminal justice through the exploration and understanding of societal issues that lead to criminal behavior.
Teach students theoretical and practical knowledge of the structures, processes, and functions of the criminal justice institutions and their relationship to other social systems.
Provide students the opportunity to explore an area of Criminal & Social Justice in depth through concentration options.
Incorporate the following skills and attitudes into the curriculum as identified by law enforcement professionals:
Ethics and integrity
Cultural diversity and tolerance
Public service and community leadership
Interpersonal communication and conflict resolution
Strong writing skills
Provide students with the opportunity for experiential learning including service learning, internships, and research.
Prepare students to contribute to society through service and leadership as criminal and social justice professionals.

Mitchell College offers degree programs in the fascinating and rapidly-changing field of Criminal Justice.

In this program, you’ll get the advantage of an excellent liberal arts foundation, while learning the ins and outs of the country’s criminal justice system.

Criminal Justice students can choose either an Associate in Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree. The Bachelor of Arts program allows you to specialize in one of the following three concentrations:

The Criminal Justice program prepares students for service and/or graduate study in a diversity of criminal justice and related fields through its commitment to professional criminal justice values and ethics. Students will prepare for responsible citizenship, understand the interdisciplinary nature of the field, and develop a comprehensive understanding of crime and the criminal justice system by integrating the Christian world view, through a Restorative Justice perspective and a strong liberal arts foundation, within an analytical and conceptual framework.

The criminal justice major prepares students for entry-level positions in the field, including the areas of judicial services, law enforcement, adult and juvenile probation, adult and juvenile correctional institutions, adult and juvenile parole supervision, victim assistance programs and community-based rehabilitation agencies.

What is Pre-Criminal Justice?

Students who succeed in the pre-criminal justice program are people who enjoy functioning as part of a team in a system charged with keeping the public safe and maintaining societal order, assisting in the administration of justice and treating offenders. They are people who demonstrate the willingness to work well with the general public, exhibit excellent communication skills, work well under various levels of supervision and have an appreciation for cultural diversity.

Career Possibilities

Students studying criminal justice usually enter careers in policing, courts, corrections, criminal justice planning and administration, crime prevention, research and other related fields.

Majoring in Pre-Criminal Justice

Pre-criminal justice is an associate of arts degree program sponsored by the Behavioral Sciences Department at Raymond Walters College, with an emphasis on preparing students for careers in federal, state and local criminal justice agencies and departments. The two-year, pre-criminal justice program provides students with the knowledge and skills to prepare them for a career concerned with upholding the law and supporting justice. Students will acquire the knowledge and application of the development of law, the U.S. Constitution and the importance of practices and procedures that support such concepts in the United States today.

The program includes a liberal arts foundation, several basic criminal justice courses, and many technical courses such as criminal investigation and conflict resolution. The curriculum is based on the philosophy that knowledge of the basics, complemented by theory and application, are essential components of a successful practitioner’s education. In addition, the program provides an opportunity for career exposure via field placement and/or service learning experiences. These courses can provide the student with real-world experiences in criminal justice agencies, departments and institutions of interest to them.
