The Criminal Justice major emphasizes a multi-disciplinary and experiential approach to crime, justice, and the reduction of violence. It is a liberal arts major that requires students to think critically, communicate effectively, and to contemplate and appreciate alternative viewpoints. It encourages students to take both an analytical and active approach to criminal justice.
The major shows students the “working side of the street,” encouraging them to interact with people on the front lines of the criminal justice system and to confront real-life issues. Courses in the major take students to criminal justice sites such as corrections facilities, police departments, courts, and community agencies. Classes will involve guest speakers who discuss first-hand experiences with specific aspects of criminality and crime prevention.
Students who complete the criminal justice major may go on to careers in law enforcement, corrections, social work, the justice system, or law. Whether or not they pursue employment in any of these areas, students will leave with a deeper understanding of crime and justice in contemporary American society.

The Master of Arts in Criminal Justice Program (MACJ) is designed to offer students a broad, multidisciplinary and multidimensional perspective of the criminal justice system. Criminal justice is not an isolated discipline, and the program will function in the same liberal arts spirit that has characterized undergraduate offerings since the founding of the college. Humans have been faced with the issue of how to maintain order and deal with those who disobey the law for centuries. It was not until the 1960s, however, that the United States government recognized the need for higher education in criminal justice. The work of criminal justice practitioners is complex, and it requires knowledge of human behavior as well as an understanding of the issues faced by employees throughout the criminal justice system. The entire system is inter-connected, so the work of one agency has a direct impact of the work other agencies. The MACJ Program allows students to concentrate in areas of Forensic Psychology, Homeland Security, or explore other aspects of criminal justice/criminology.
The MACJ program at Stockton offers many distinct advantages:
Affordability:
Stockton has highly affordable tuition.
Graduate assistantships and financial aid are available.
