Student Finance in criminal justice at University Campus Suffolk, United Kingdom

UK and EU students
Full-time fees

For many, money plays a major role when deciding to carry on with, or return to, education. In recent years there have been significant changes to the funding arrangements for UK and EU students.

Full details are available in the booklet Financial Support in Higher Education published by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS). A copy of this booklet can be obtained free of charge by telephoning 0207 215 5555, or by visiting the DIUS website at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

Under the higher education funding arrangement no full-time undergraduate student will have to pay fees before they start university or whilst they are studying. Students will repay their tuition fees following graduation and upon earning over £15,000 per year.

In 2008-2009 University Campus Suffolk will charge both UK and EU students an annual tuition fee of £3,145 per year for all degree schemes. Fees for 2009-2010 have not yet been agreed but once finalised they will be available here.
Part-time fees

Part-time fees vary depending on the length of time a student wishes to take to complete their course. Full details of the fees for each module are shown in Tuition Fees 2008//09.
Student loans

There are two types of student loan available, one for tuition fees and one for maintenance.

Both types of loans are supplied by the Government and are linked to the rate of inflation. Students should apply to their Local Education Authority (LEA) for a loan at the same time as they apply to them for assessment of household income. They will then advise students of the amount of loan they are entitled to and will ask them to indicate whether they wish to take the full loan or a lesser amount.
Non-repayable grants

New full-time students from lower income households will be able to apply to their LEA for a non-repayable maintenance grant of up to £2,825 a year (2008 rates).
Bursaries

University Campus Suffolk understands how difficult it can be for students to afford to study and therefore offer a generous bursary scheme to full-time students from low income households.

Bursaries are non-repayable and are based on the amount of maintenance grant the student is eligible to receive. Eligible students will receive either £500 or £1,000.

The University Campus Suffolk bursary scheme is in addition to the assistance available from the Student Loan Company.
International student bursaries

University Campus Suffolk will guarantee a bursary of £1000 to all students liable for the international student tuition fee who have accepted firmly an offer of a place at University Campus Suffolk by 31 July in the year of entry and who have met the entry conditions and confirmed their place by 31 August.
Health care bursaries

Students on professional health care courses which attract a NHS bursary do not have to make a contribution towards tuition fees during the period the bursary covers. If the bursary is means tested (degree courses), students will be eligible for a student loan in addition to the bursary.

For more information about NHS bursaries and other financial help available for professional health courses, visit www.nhsstudentgrants.co.uk
EU students

Although EU students are entitled to defer payment of the £3,145 per year tuition fee until after graduation and after they are earning over £15,000 per year, they are not eligible for any financial support relating to the maintenance costs associated with studying, such as accommodation, food, books and travel. Details of who qualifies for EU student fees status can be obtained by visiting the DfES website at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance-eu
International students

Tuition fees for international students for the academic year 2009-2010 are not yet known but as a guide fees for 2008-2009 are:

Classroom-based £9,250

Laboratory-based £11,500

University Campus Suffolk will guarantee a bursary of £1000 to all students liable for the international student tuition fee who have accepted firmly an offer of a place at University Campus Suffolk by 31 July in the year of entry and who have met the entry conditions and confirmed their place by 31 August. For further information contact the Admissions Office on 01473 338348.

University Campus Suffolk requires all international students to show evidence of their ability to cover the costs of studying in the UK for the duration of their course. Students will be expected to provide a satisfactory financial guarantee certifying that they have sufficient funds.

Master of Criminal Justice at Saint Ambrose University

In 1989, the Master of Criminal Justice (MCJ) program at St. Ambrose University began. It is the first of its kind in Iowa. Focusing on professional development, the program is built around a multi-faceted and balanced curriculum designed to produce skilled leaders in criminal justice and related fields.

The MCJ program is ideal for those interested in upper-level careers in law enforcement, security, corrections, and human services. It also prepares persons wishing to teach criminal justice, or to serve as personnel and training specialists in justice-related organizations.

Most students in the program are professionals in the criminal justice field working toward their degree on a part-time basis. Over the past few years there have been an increasing number of students entering the program on a full-time basis immediately after their undergraduate studies. The program can be completed in one to three years, depending on the number of classes taken per semester.
NEWS - Cedar Rapids and Ottumwa
We now offer the Master of Criminal Justice program in Cedar Rapids and Ottumwa, Iowa. Cedar Rapids classes are held at Kirkwood Community College and Ottumwa classes are held at Indian Hills Community College.
